10 Android Apps to Make you More Productive

At Astro, we love finding ways to be more efficient, productive, and focused during the day.  Here are some productivity apps we Android enthusiasts use throughout the day.

Wake up with Good Morning Alarm Clock

If your alarm clock’s BEEP BEEP BEEP jolts you awake, you may be in for a rough day. With Good Morning Alarm Clock you can set a calming alarm sound to wake up to. But, here’s the best part: Good Morning Alarm Clock is able to identify and track your sleep cycles, so your alarm will go off when you’re in the lightest phase of sleep. This means that when you wake up, you won’t feel quite as tired. Download.

Rain or shine, check the weather with Dark Sky

Many apps report the weather, but none that we’ve tried do so as thoroughly as Dark Sky. Get forecasts that are down to the minute for the exact place you’re standing (or will be standing). That way you can focus on the important stuff, instead of wondering whether it’s going to rain. Download.

Start your day on the right foot with 7 Minute Workout

With 7 Minute Workout, you can squeeze in some exercise on a busy morning, in–you guessed it–7 minutes. With customizable exercise periods, rest sets, and repeat circuits, this app is great for those of us who try to pack everything into a day. The app also offers a thirty day challenge, which is a helpful way to kick yourself into gear. Download.

Find your zen with Headspace

Meditating before work can start your day off right and make you more productive. Try one of their Minis (1-3 minute meditations) while on the go or take some time to explore one of their longer meditations around a specific topic, like Stress or Commuting. Download.

Catch up on your priority emails while commuting with Astro

We’re a bit biased, but we think Astro is the best way to get caught up on email for the day. Astro prioritizes your email for you so you can focus on what’s most important. Snooze emails for later, track email opens and replies, and schedule emails to be sent at a later date. Bonus: if you can’t decide what to have for lunch, try asking Astrobot, our in-app email assistant.

And if you drive to work, check out Astrobot Voice. Astrobot will read your emails to you, and you can even Snooze and reply to emails simply by talking to Astrobot. Download.

Block out distractions with AppBlock

We love finding hacks to help increase focus, which is why we use AppBlock. AppBlock temporarily prevents you from opening certain apps and receiving notifications from those apps during a set period of time. You can block out Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram when you really need to get things done. Don’t worry, you’ll receive a list of notifications later, so you can pick up where you left off. Download.

Stay on task with Asana

Every team needs a good way to keep track of what needs to get done today, tomorrow, and even this year. The Asana Android app clearly lists out tasks, comments, and due dates so we can stay on top of our work. Bonus: Make sure to enable “Show occasional celebrations upon task completion.” You won’t be sorry. Download.

Ready for lunch? Yup, I’m Allset

Have a client meeting but don’t want to spend time hungrily waiting in line, waiting for your food, or waiting for the bill? Allset is in it’s early stages, but solves this problem. You can reserve a table at participating restaurants through their app, pre-order your food (and invite clients or co-workers), sit at a designated Allset table, and leave whenever you want because you paid through the app. Download.

Put links in Pocket for a rainy day

Pocket is the best bookmarking tool around. Sometimes you find a link but it’s not the best time to read it. With Pocket, it’s easy to save links, and they even sync across all of your devices. You can also read your saved items while offline, like on your commute home. Download.

Sleep tight with Twilight

Looking at screens before bed often interferes with our circadian rhythms, causing us to feel more tired and less productive. While it’s best to not stare at screens before bed, Twilight is a helpful option when you must. Twilight adjusts the amount of blue light that your screen emits, reducing the effect on your sleep cycle. Download.
